Beyonce is back, y’all! After taking a much-needed break last year, she’s back with a new album, a new sound and a new focus for her life. Penning her first cover story, she lets Essence readers in on why her break was so crucial:
“I had talked about taking a vacation before, but always ended up in the studio after two weeks, so no one believed me. This time, though, I was serious. I was going to give myself a year to do the things I never get to do. Simple things like play with my nephew, pick him up from school, visit museums, go to concerts, see some Broadway shows, learn to cook a meal and spend time with my husband… Yes, I needed some relaxation, but I wanted inspiration too, from regular everyday things. Eh, I might pick it up and I might not (leaning more towards reading it at the checkstand and then putting it back, lol). I am a fan of her music, but I don’t find her as a person to be terribly interesting. She tries way to hard to protect her privacy, image and not show any flaws to the point where it makes her seem rather bland and unrelateable. Nobody is saying to go out here and make a mess of your life and have articles about your stints in rehab and what-not, but seriously if she revealed more of her self and her vulnerabilities it would make her seem less robotic. I mean I get the privacy aspect, but remaining private won’t sale magazines…..at least not to me. I say either give us a glimpse of who you are for real, struggles and all, or just stay completely mum and make music. Nobody wants to buy a magazine to read the same old dry, stiff, politically correct interview that you always give Bey…
I’m Beyonce biggest fan and even I think her interviews are terrible. LOL. She just…doesn’t open up. Ever. But some folks I follow on Twitter were saying that this was slightly different. I haven’t read it yet but let’s hope so! 🙂
I doubt it but, we shall see. But more power to Bey. I’m sure there’s a huge correlation between her major success and closed lips….at least in her industry.
