Haitian-American actress Garcelle Beauvais is adding a new profession to her impressive resume: author. The actress best known for her role as Fancy on The Jamie Foxx Show has a series of children’s books in the works with Stranger Comics. The series will be called “I Am” and will “address identity issues relevant to many children today.”
The first book, “I Am Mixed,” will be released this fall and is about a brother and sister of mixed ethnicity. A second book will focus on children of divorce, a topic Beauvais knows much about as she is a child of divorce and has been married twice.
Beauvais joins a long and elite list of black celebrities who decided to write children’s books. Kim Wayans, Dionne Warwick, George Foreman, Tiki Barber, Terrell Owens, Bill Cosby, Whoopi Goldberg, Queen Latifah, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, and Spike and Tonya Lewis Lee have also chosen this avenue to teach African American children about growing up through literature.

If it’s good it’s good, if it’s bad it’s bad. I don’t judge a book by its cover (or celebrity). They’ll always have the advantage of their position/standing/audience to get their message out that little bit easier but if the book merits it then, well so be it. 🙂
