Whenever I hear a sermon, a word or a song on my favorite gospel station, I try to think about how I can use those words to honor my husband. When my Pastor speaks about developing a better relationship with God, I always try to also understand ways that I can develop a better relationship with my husband. And boy has this site given me so much insight, laughter and confirmations for my own marriage!
A while back, I remember my Pastor talking about the importance fo finding joy in your life and how to find joy. I remember him saying, “Joy is a protest. It is a stance that says I refuse to let the darkness of evil conquer the light of Christ in my heart”. This is so powerful because even as I’ve gotten older, I’ve had to let some relationships go because they were threatening to “steal my joy”. It’s about taking a stance and choosing to be unapologetic about distancing yourself from the evil and negativity that surrounds us day in and day out. But doesn’t the same hold true for marriage? Don’t we have to make a decision to take a stance that says we refuse to let the darkness of evil conquer the light of joy we have in our marriage?
Here are 5 G’s that every marriage needs in order to find (and keep) joy. Check them out and then tell us what virtues are you most grateful for in your spouse, and what ways do you let them know?

What if you don’t have any of those… I am a Christian whose a work and progress and him when our marriage got rocky he stopped going to church and when we met it was like pulling teeth to get him to go with me and the kids to service… And the other 4 G’s we’ve never had… I got pregnant and we wanted to do the right thing for our baby… Not a good way to start a marriage but it’s honest. We live like room mates everything split down the middle and I take care of the kids 80% financially by myself, bothers me a lot that I have to ask for money to help with our kids when he should see a struggle. I get no appreciation, very little help, its just a empty relationship.
Hi Tree, so sorry that you have to deal with that. One of the links in the post (the one on the first page/G) is a link to an article I talked about where my husband and I no longer see eye to eye in that arena. I definitely think that you should seek the help that you both need, someone who is a licensed professional and can maybe help you get back on track if that is what you want. No one should feel empty in a marriage, so I pray you’re able to find the happiness you are seeking.
This article is great and so true. A definite reminder of what’s important in marriage and really any relationship.
Indeed! All relationships can benefit from these 5 things.
Very true ladies! Thanks so much for chiming in! 🙂
Great article! The same could hold true for almost every important relationship in your life. As I was reading this, I thought about how to apply this to my relationship with my daughter. Thanks for the insight.
I agree Julian! I know I can definitely use these with my own kids so thank you for sharing! 🙂
Should I ever be blessed with a second chance at marriage, I will definitely have to remember these things. Great post!
Thanks so much Drea! I pray that God blesses you with someone who will also be willing to embrace the 5 G’s 🙂
