As you are planning your wedding and start thinking about cakes, think about other desserts as well. Don’t think wedding and groom’s cake are the only two desserts you can have. Think outside the cake for a minute and consider the following.
Pie. Yes pie. If you have a family member that can bake their butt off, don’t be afraid to ask them to bake a few pies for your reception. Pies can be an alternative for those who don’t really care for cake. Pies also give your reception a warm and personal feel.
Cupcakes. You may want to have wedding cupcakes instead of a large wedding cake. You can have a variety of different flavors too. Think about stacking the cupcakes in wedding pans that you can stack or spread them out on different plates at varying heights.
Mini cakes. I’ve seen mini cakes double as centerpieces at the reception. You can have mini cakes in lieu of the traditional wedding cake or in addition to. Another way to showcase your personality is to have each mini cake decorated differently. Some can be decorated to show the groom’s personality too.
Candy. Candy tables are growing more and more popular at weddings. They can pull double duty as wedding favors also. Display your favorite candies in all kinds of glass ware and vases. Be sure to have plenty of small treat bags. You can personalize the bags with stickers displaying your wedding date or a thank you. Your guests, especially the kids, will definitely enjoy it.
All these treats can be used as your parting gifts, most craft stores sell small boxes for all of these treats. They are easy to personalize with stickers matching your colors and you can print them from your computer. If you have a real sweet tooth, try setting up a dessert station with a scaled down version of all of these decadent treats.
