Sometimes we make the mistake of assuming that younger men lack maturity. Apparently that is not the status quo; just ask Mariah, Janet Jackson, and a host of other women who have decided to get serious with men years younger than themselves.
A study conducted by the AARP found “34% of women over age 40 have dated younger men, and 35% preferred it to dating older men.” Many studies have discussed why black women are often single. In addition to focusing on our education and careers other factors such as parenthood might play a role as well.
“…single parenthood rates are disproportionately high in Black communities. And since women are usually the primary caregivers, dating options and opportunities can be limited. When we combine these and other smaller issues, older Black women are finding it more difficult to find, date and build relationships with single men who are “compatible.” A compatible man has been conventionally defined as someone two or three years older, from a similar background and with generally higher education and income.”
Today’s women are changing the definition of a “compatible man,” the allure of dating an older man no longer as prominent as it was to women in their early twenties. For more on this story visit Ebony.

its great but after a while the difference in age plays a point. Either you accept it or fall flat so dating young is nice but for how long. If he wants kids and she has already close that chapter then what. Ppl cant be compared to celebrities because they can always change the norm and date whom ever and then talk about how good or bad it was
I would date and marry a younger man, but only if he is within 5-6 years my junior. I once dated a guy 13 years my junior. Our age differences didn’t come up in the relationship until 2 months when I mentioned something about a 70s cartoon. Once we got over the shock of the age difference, we agreed to try to see what happens. His family and friends had a problem with our relationship, which ultimately caused the end of our relationship.
Funny that I see this article today as there is a younger man I’m considering dating. He’s only about three years younger but my last few serious relationships were with older men and I like their old school mentality. This guy let me know in very direct terms that he was interested in me. So I guess the ball is in my court. I’ll be thinking long and hard…

I had 3.5 year live in boyfriend that was 16 years my junior. We were compatible because we looked approx same age (he was 40-ish) and was equally sexually charged. The age difference was not as big a deal as his lying and cheating. Even though we made love 2/3 times a day for the duration of our relatioship, he found the energy and time to cheat. Finally, I kicked him out and he chased me for months until he got the message I was not taking him back. Even though age was not major factor, I would not date another guy no more than 5 years my junior. Older is better, even if not sexually charged.
It depends on each woman. Younger men who date older women or a cougar is popular today. Not all men are the same. Some of them prefer to date a matured lady while some like their money. So, most of these young guys are not supportive but depend on their women. So, power and materials are two things that most young men and old women relationships happen. Older women are seeking younger men because they guys can make them feel younger. That’s what I think.
