The 2011 Soul Train Awards honored Gladys Knight and Earth Wind & Fire as Soul Train Awards Legends, and featured some of today’s hottest R&B artists in their tributes. So how was the show? We’d give it high marks for diversity of performances. (We guess if you had little ones in the room they would have been excited about the Mindless Behavior set, but if you’re over 20 and wondering who Mindless Behavior is, don’t fret.)

I think both the tributes were mediocre at best excepting Mary Mary during Gladys’ tribute and Eric Benet in the Earth, Wind and Fire Tribute. And Marsha Ambrosius, while very talented, should never be allowed into a tribute because her voice is too unique to fit. Key to a tribute: make your own though still recognizable. She failed at that. As for the rest of the show…really liked Cedric’s hosting. But I’m not a awards show fan; this is the first one I’ve seen in like 5 years. I was pulled in by the tributes which I wanted to see.

I have to agree…I almost wish these award shows would stop doing tributes because no one ever does them right. I saw the EWF members cringing as the artists performed
