7. Make a Choice
Life is about choices. If you want to have a happy marriage, then choose to have one (regardless of what you saw growing up.) The marriages from my childhood had a lot of things that I choose not to carry into my marriage (infidelity, lack of communication and intimacy, disrespect.) But, they also had some traits that I choose to take on, such as perseverance, taking care of your family at any cost, and having each other’s back. Yes, you can choose to embrace the good and chuck the bad.
I want a happy marriage, therefore I choose to put in the work to have one. I choose not to allow my past circumstances and bad decisions dictate the future that I will have with my spouse.
BMWK – What about you? Have the relationships from your childhood had any impact on your current relationships?
