As parents we often do our best to raise our children to become positive contributing members of society. We hope that the values we instill in them as little ones will be at the forefront of the decisions that they make as adults. Many of us pray that our children do not fall victim to violence but what happens when they inflict violence on another person’s child? What happens when they begin making choices that result in your parenting to come into question?
Children, much like adults, make poor choices everyday. But, even when they are adults, people still look for someone to blame. And most often it is the parents of these children who are apologizing for their actions regardless of how old their “child” is.
As referenced in The Huffington Post, Chris Dorner’s mother, Nancy Dorner, recently spoke out to those impacted by her son’s actions.
“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we express our deepest sympathies and condolences to anyone that suffered losses or injuries resulting from Christopher’s actions. We do not condone Christopher’s actions. The family has no further comments and ask that our privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
As the families of Dorner’s victims grieve his mother grieves also. And perhaps, she wonders if she could have done anything differently. But what if she truly did the best she knew how?
Her son is gone now and with that so is her ability to help him. For more on this story visit The Huffington Post.
