BMWK: It’s always great to hear about the dynamic of a working relationship and how you make it work. It sounds like you both have great chemistry. So it doesn’t sound like you have enough time to get on each other’s nerves [laughs]. How do you make it work in your marriage?
Toni: Oh we do [get on each other’s nerves]. First of all we got married mature. Of course I was more mature. And I’m in the army so everything is about my time. I don’t have too long to be mad. But with getting on each other’s nerves, we usually give it time and try to figure out what it is that we’re really upset about. Sometimes it’s about something else that went on in the day. But that took being willing not to run away from fights.
We respect each other a lot and we have fun. We have great chemistry. We’re so silly we always want to get back to the fun. We don’t want to waste time not laughing or smiling. Even with the kids: they’ll get a whooping and then we’ll get right back to laughing.
BMWK: What do you like to do for date night?
Griff: Well now we have some really cool privileges that we pay for and work for. So we like save ours and one day just decide to go to London out of the blue and just not eat cause it’s so expensive [laughs]. There’s also a bed and breakfast that we really like in Chattanooga. But if she needs love, I don’t have to put a night on it.
Toni: We do a lot of spontaneous things, everything is not planned. We love adventures. That’s the thing about us is that we do crazy stuff [laughs]. One time we went to Seattle and stayed at probably one of the best hotels there and didn’t have any money.
One of the things I love about being married to Griff is that we don’t fit in a box. That’s one of the things about doing the show that I just want people to know about love: it’s what you decide it is, and it doesn’t have to fit in a box. I’m not a Hallmark person. Just like the movie ends after the credits, you don’t know what problems [the people playing] those characters go back to.
