A while back I wrote the article 5 Ways To Make Her Happy To Come Home, telling the men what they can do to put a bigger smile on the face of their special woman. Well it is only fair that I make a list for the women to read and embrace in regards to creating a happy home for their man. Some of the things are basically the same, and most can be applied to either gender. What you are about to read isn’t about defining roles, but simply stating what things will make a man more likely to want to rush home instead of run away from it.

What we must realize/remember is that, in the not so distant past, intact loving husband-wife families became more the exception than the norm, if they ever were “normal” for most of us. The sad result is that so many of us NEVER saw this modeled in our family of origin. Or we saw it so rarely it never caught on. It therefore is a learned behavior that takes quite some time, and you have to learn it from other family or in most cases, strangers. And even then, we only learn after we struggle with the sad consequences of failed relationships from the default of repeating the lack of affection and intimacy, leading to dysfunction, that many of us grew up witnessing. It becomes a priority only when you realize that you crave it like air to breathe, AND that you are capable of having an affectionate relationship/marriage, in spite of the legacy you inherited. We must first learn to be loving, affectionate and compassionate to ourselves, then we can be affectionate and loving to our mates and others. So, yes, unfortunately, sometimes we have to be told/shown to do this, step by step, by baby step. Thanks to BMWK for leading the way!

Great article. There is a reason why most black women are single and in most cases it is not because they choose too. A lot of them don’t or refuse to cater to him because of selfish reasons or know how to treat a him but want that same man to cater to them. If you don’t cater too or treat a black man like a king, he will find someone else that will.
